The owners of this house are a family that were after additional space for entertaining, as well as to create space for their growing children. The house was originally a split level home, but with no direct access between the two levels, i.e. one has to go outside in order to access different levels of the house. The original brick façade was also tired looking, with no character to it.
A new garage was added to the front of the house, with children’s bedrooms above. This allowed the owners to clear the entertaining areas of the kids’ bedrooms, so they could enjoy a larger kitchen and dining area that looked out directly onto the swimming pool. An internal connection was made between the two existing levels of the house, the lower level being converted into a rumpus room for the children. A new swimming pool and deck revitalised the backyard. The front entry was repositioned to the centre of the façade, with a separate entry foyer with a cloak cupboard.
This design went through Complying Development, which allowed the client to avoid lodging his proposal to the local Council.
The clients were after a coastal Hamptons style home. Half of the front façade is clad in Hamptons style siding, whilst the other half will be a painted brick, for contrast. The kitchen will feature simple white stone benchtops, with timber flooring. The bathrooms contain feature herringbone tiled walls in marble.
